The young Moon in the old Moon's arms: a waning crescent barely one day before being exactly new taken 10/24/'03. The best time to scout for an ultra-thin old Moon is in the Fall, when the angle of the ecliptic is steep toward the eastern horizon. Used a 400mm lens to get this + 1/2 second exposure at f. 5.6. See? The twilight smiles!
