Voyager 2 Approaches Uranus

Description

A "world premiere" of a sort, as it was to humanity in Jan. 1986: my drawing of the Voyager 2 spacecraft approaching planet Uranus done 4 yrs earlier - in Jan. 1982! Now, in March, 2009, it is shown HERE for the first time in over 27 YEARS. In early 1986, Uranus's north pole was facing us, and the approaching Voyager 2 spacecraft. In early 2008, the thin dark rings and equator of the blue planet were edge-on to us. Spring is thus beginning in its southern hemisphere, as I am glad it is about to here on Earth! In this view, we tag along close behind the Voyager 2 space craft, while Uranus with its narrow rings loom just over 100,000 miles away (and almost 1.8 billion miles from Earth). The planet's outermost moon Oberon is just a large black dot just to the upper right (2:00pm position) of the probe's communication dish. See?
